The Hyper Jet big game lure represents a huge leap forward in jet head design . The
goal was to create a jet head lure with more smoke, more noise, and a frantic,
darting action that triggers strikes. In addition this new jet head must work at
speeds as slow as four knots and as high as twenty knots. If we could pull all this
together we might have a winner.
For more bubbles or smoke, research pointed to a head design with a combinati on
of large and small holes. In order to maximize the smoke the bubbles must flow
both through and around the jet head. We designed and tested 44 designs to find
the combination that created the most bubbles. Next we tested 29 cupped face
designs to find the best action. The trick was to capture the best of both
designs.
The key
was the invention of the jointed jet head and skirt design. The skirt was
mounted on a strong, light acrylic
pin which pushed the jet head. No w we had a jet head lure with maximum smoke and
strike triggering action. An added benefit was was the easy interchangeable
skirt system.
Most jet heads used steel or brass which were too
heavy for the action we were after, especially at the slow speeds which big
Marlin sometimes can't resist. Light, aircraft aluminum was tested and proved
ideal.
With
the new anodized, aluminum jet head and the two piece jointed lure, the Hyper Jet
e xplodes out of the water at high speeds and still pops out at slow speeds. A
combination of harmonic noise from the water moving through the head and the
noise created by the big splash when the Hyper Jet pops out of the water was
ideal for raising big game fish. The darting action before surfacing looked
to be just what we were looking for. Final testing proved us right as two Pacific Blue Marlin between 450 and 500
pounds were caught and released the first two days.
The Hyper Jet is available
in 8" and 13" sizes and 8 colors to cover a wide variety of big game
fish. Packaging
consists of a 5" plastic t-hanger and two cards as shown below.
