Prototypes of large saltwater jigs were begun years ago, but we never had time to finish the project. When business slowed several years ago we found the time to finish what we had started. Our friends and customers with charter boats wanted a jig that would stay down and track straight at higher speeds. They wanted lures that would run below their regular sets to attract bigger fish. Most lures turn over and come to the top at higher speeds. Big game trolling occasionally requires chasing or heading off a school of bait fish which means faster speeds. If lures don't track straight they tangle.
We perfected a jig and soft plastic body with a tight wiggle like that of a ballyhoo or mackerel. Making the bodies easy to load was a top priority. That problem was solved by molding the hook channels in the larger bodies. The Hyper Hoo is a combination jig head and soft plastic lure that has the wiggle and look of the Ballyhoo and can be trolled at speeds up to eighteen knots. The 4 oz. 9” Hyper Hoo was tested the past two years with great success in the Caribbean and the Pacific off California and Baha with many Dolphin, Wahoo, blackfin, yellow fin, barracuda, and kingfish caught. Scott Scholes and Jay DeBeaubien, Pacific Blue Marlin record holder, tested both the 8 oz. and the 4 oz. lures while fishing out of Cabo last fall and had great success on yellow fin, dolphin, and marlin. Howard Bond, world renowned small boat angler form Barra Navidad has caught numerous sailfish with the 8 oz. Hyper Hoo. Lead captain of Pisces Sportfishing Fleet in Cabo San Lucas and famous marlin angler, Benito Agundez, caught three marlin and four dorado the first time he used the 8 oz. Hyper Hoo. A third size, the 2 oz. Hyper Hoo, proved to be very versatile catching everything from albacore, tuna and stripers by trolling, to jigging for cod and sea bass on the bottom.
The 12" Hyper Hoo package is a clam with one 8 oz. jig, one VMC 10/0 Perma Steel trailer hook, and two bodies. The 9" Hyper Hoo package is a clam with one 4 oz. jig rigged and two spare bodies. The 6" Hyper Hoo package is a clam with one 2 oz. jig rigged and three spare bodies under the insert. |
